About Me

Hannah Mariko Bell (She/Her) is a proud fourth generation Japanese Canadian and a recent graduate of the University of Victoria's theatre program (BFA with Distinction, 2019) where she took a comprehensive approach to her theatre education. Her first production, Kansha, was produced as a part of Intrepid Theatre's YOU Show 2018-2019 season with support from the Victoria Nikkei Cultural Society and the National Association of Japanese Canadians Young Leader Fund. Hannah's goal as a theatre artist is to engage different communities through positive representations of Japanese culture, as well as challenge audience perspectives through a variety of theatrical practices.

Hannah is a new puppeteer and is currently working on two different puppet shows; Momotarō (shadow puppet show) and Going All the Way (multiple forms of puppetry). She premiered her digital creation Meet the Snoofs at Peek Show 10 (May 2021). She has taken workshops with The Wonderheads and Ingrid Hansen, and hopes to learn more about the practice. Hannah is a member of UNIMA West.

Hannah is the Accessibility and Outreach Coordinator at Theatre SKAM.
